After the North, let’s explore a little bit the South of the west coast.
I went direction Pemberton, to go climbing the three trees tower. They are Karri trees, part of the eucalyptus tree family, which only grow in South West Australia. The tree tower have been built as fire lookout in the 1930s. They were 8 of them, and were used during summer to spot fires. They’ve been replaced by airplanes in 1972.
There is three of them left that are open to public to climb on top. One of them, The Bicentennial tree, is not part of the original trees. It was built in 1988, as part of the celebration to commemorate 200 years of European settlement in Australia. They chose that tree for its hight and the view from the top of it. The tower on top of the tree is around 75 metres above the ground. It’s the highest of the three and the first one I climbed. It was a little scary to do so, not being secured and going up by the posts that are fixed in the trunk, but I made it to the top and loved it!!
So after this good experience, I went for the two others one. The Diamond tree, 52metres high, and the Gloucester one, 53meters. I think I liked the view from the last one the best, but I loved getting on top of everyone of them, tree challenge complete :)
I stayed in Pemberton for the night and went for a run in the evening, needed to move a little after all the driving I’ve been doing the last four days.
