Taupo

13-14.01

Leaving Rotorua, direction Taupo.
First we stopped at Te Puia Park in Rotorua. They have a weaving and wood sculpting school, keeping the Maori tradition alive, and the hot mud pool and geyser. We had a guided tour, lots of stories about Maori history, and a little treat cooked in one of the boiling pool ;)

Flax, used for weaving

Let's cook some eggs :)

Next morning, up at 5.00am for The Tongariro Alpine Crossing , in Tongariro Nationnal Park. It’s a 19,4km hike and take around 6h30. It goes by Mt doom that you can go to the summit if you want. I didn’t do it and glad I didn’t because everybody said it was like hell and they all had some nice scratches on their legs…

Mont Ngauruhoe or better known as mount Doom

  1. Googled it... Scary!!!
    - Lahar is an Indonesian term that describes a hot or cold mixture of water and rock fragments flowing down the slopes of a volcano and (or) river valleys. When moving, a lahar looks like a mass of wet concrete that carries rock debris ranging in size from clay to boulders more than 10 m in diameter.
